What is your favorite Bible story or Hero/Heroine?

I just love God's Word. I guess to some that might sound strange. I have read my Bible since I was a little girl. I remember age 9-10 not understanding a lot of what I read and in my teens..but I still read it. Many things I did understand. Now, still so much I do not understand...but God really brings out new things to me when I read a story I have read a hundred times. Like Noah and the ark or Jesus being arrested. It is amazing the little things I didn't catch or comprehend the hundred previous times.

Lately, I have had such a burning to read and understand more, to just know God. I want to read
and read...it is like looking at God's heart. What an amazing book. I was sitting here thinking that I haven't posted in awhile but was really thinking about all the amazing things I have been reading recently. Like the story of Gomer. My goodness...what an amazing story of love, redemption, mercy and forgiveness. The parable of the 10 virgins, 5 were ready when the Lord called, 5 thought they were ready...but weren't. Mary Magdalene, Esther, Ruth, Elijah. David, Stephen ...it just goes on and on.

I thought why not ask all of you...what is your favorite and wh?. I know mine and don't want to ruin or take your answers...I would love to hear your thoughts on your favorites  =)

  1. Easy...The Book of Job

I am never more encouraged than when I read Job's story. Whenever I feel like I am under attack by the enemy, I picture God saying 'Have you considered my servant Debbie?' It causes me to be stronger in my faith and convictions.

  2. That is a great book. I know what you mean too....sometimes I can get down and feel sorry for myself and the Lord brings Job to my mind. I love where he says "Though He slay me, yet I will trust in Him". Oh what faith in the Lord! I want to have faith just like that.

  3. Sarah Penner: For some reason it won't let me comment on your blog but here's my answer:
I've always really liked David. I love that he's this amazing man of God and so often he reacted in ways like I do. 'God, help me!' 'Save me!' It's so nice to know that he had panic moments just like me. *phew*

(Sarah couldn't post, so I posted for her)

  4. Esther is my favorite. When I was a kid it was kinda like a fairy tale for me & that's why I loved it but now that I am older & I see the whole story & how God used one single girl thru her courage & her obedience to Him to save His people. It just shows how the smallest person can be used greatly for the Lord if we just submit to Him!!!

  5. I'm not sure about my favorite, but I recently studied the book of Habakkuk and really liked his story. He wondered why God was allowing all the bad things to happen to His people and why it seemed that the enemy was always winning. And then he prayed and waited for God's answer. And when God told Habakkuk that one day the bad guys would be taken down, Habakkuk didn't understand how or why. But he trusted God. I can really relate to that. I don't know why or how things happen, but I know that there is a reason and I am trusting God to keep me safe and show me what to do, even if I don't understand what good will come of it :)

    1. So true Sarah. I love how much we can learn from what others have already gone through. I think this is the theme of most of the Bible and why faith is so important. Great choice =)
